According to the CDC, smokers are 30 to 40 % more likely to get type 2 diabetes than people who don’t smoke!Β Eating healthy, being physically active, and maintaining a healthy weight also reduces your chances of getting type 2 diabetes!
There are 1440 minutes in 24 hours. At least 60 of those minutes should be for getting some exercise! Use your time wisely,Β get up and move!
When drinking juice make sure you are drinking 100% juice and not juice drinks, cocktails and juice beverages. Limit your juice intake to less than 8 ounces/day. Eat fruit instead for more fiber and less sugar!
Hey you! Are you getting at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day? Any combination is fine (3 fruits + 2 vegetables; 1 fruit + 4 vegetables), just make sure you are getting a variety!
8 to 10 hours of sleep per 24 hours is what the American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends for 13-18 year olds. Not getting enough sleep puts you atΒ a higher risk for many health problems, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, poor mental health and injuries.
According to CDC the single best way to protect against seasonal flu and its potential complications is for children aged 6 months and older to get a seasonal influenza vaccine each year. Have you gotten your flu shot? Now is the time. Talk to your parents/guardians about protecting you from getting the flu!
Get active with your friends! Compete with one another to see how many steps you can get each day of the Autumn Glory Festivities! Did you know that 2,000 steps is equivalent to walking a mile? 6,000 steps/day (3 miles) is for health, and 10,000 steps/day (5 miles) is for fitness!
