In the March survey, we asked if you know where the 3 prescription drug drop boxes are.
10% of you knew where all 3 are. Gold star!
23% knew where at least one of them is.
Most of you (65%) really don’t know where these drop boxes are.
So, here’s the scoop – there’s one at the Sheriff’s Office, one at the MD State Police Barracks, and one at Oakland Town Hall.
Some of you really weren’t sure what the point of the drop boxes is. Anyone who has unused pills (maybe you didn’t need all the pain pills your doctor prescribed) or pills that have expired, can drop them off at any one of the drop boxes. You may wonder, “What’s the purpose?” For one thing, it isn’t good to flush pills down the toilet because then they’re in the water system. Another reason is because too many drug users steal pills from a friend or family member’s medicine cabinet or medicine drawer (which is where most of you said your family keeps their prescriptions). Disposing of pills at the drop boxes keeps them out of the hands of the wrong people. Now that you know, tell your mom and dad… and your grandparents…and your aunts and uncles. #PHLCApr2021
